In August the program reached a twin milestone with a million feet of cable replaced and a million feet injected. The program injects or replaces mostly residential direct buried cables that ComEd’s Reliability group determines are the poorest performing cables on their system. ComEd, partnering with INTREN and UtilX started with a trial program in 2007. The success of this trial program resulted in a major effort in 2008. Continuing in 2009 the program has, as of August 2009, reached a million feet of injected cable using the CableCURE method. This has resulted in an increased reach in the cable program adding an additional 650,000 ft of cable being rehabilitated compared to conventional replacement.
